The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), founded by Keshav Baliram Hedgewar in Nagpur in 1925, is renowned for its volunteer-driven social and service initiatives.
Nagpur: Prime Minister Narendra Modi released a specially designed commemorative stamp and a Rs 100 coin to mark the centenary of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Speaking on the occasion, he extended greetings to the nation on Navratri and Vijayadashami, noting that this generation is fortunate to witness such a landmark event in RSS’s history.
Addressing the gathering, PM Modi described the RSS’s 100-year journey as an extraordinary example of sacrifice, selfless service, and nation-building. He highlighted that Vijayadashami, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil, coincides with the day in 1925 when Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar established the RSS.
“The founding of the RSS was not coincidental; it was a structured effort to revive Indian culture and tradition. It was a virtuous embodiment of national consciousness,” the Prime Minister said.
PM Modi emphasized the significance of the commemorative stamp, drawing a parallel with the Republic Day parade on January 26. He noted that in 1963, RSS volunteers participated in the national parade, marching with pride and patriotism. The stamp captures this historic moment and reflects the ongoing service of RSS volunteers who continue to empower society.

To mark this historic milestone, the Indian government released a Rs 100 commemorative coin and a special stamp. The coin features the national emblem on one side and a grand depiction of Bharat Mata on the other. According to the Prime Minister, this is the first time in independent India that an image of Bharat Mata appears on currency. The stamp commemorates the 1963 moment when RSS volunteers first took part in the Republic Day parade.
PM Modi lauded the RSS for touching every aspect of society through the discipline and dedication of its members. “Whether in agriculture, science, tribal welfare, women empowerment, social service, or labor welfare, the spirit of the RSS has flowed across all domains. The organisation’s purpose is nation-building, and the daily shakha remains the foundation of its methodology,” he said.
Established on Vijayadashami in 1925 in Nagpur, the RSS has since been actively engaged across various sectors of society. Its volunteers’ commitment to service has contributed to making it the world’s largest voluntary organization.
